Property Relinquishment: Court Abandons order On Ekweremadu’s 40 Properties

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja has vacated a interim forfeiture of 40 landed properties conceded against the previous Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Justice Ekwo provided the request following a disclosure that the Relinquishment Request was deceitfully gotten by the Federal Government against the properties.

While lifting the request, the Adjudicator held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission which got the request for the benefit of the Federal Government covered data that prompted conceding it. In particular, Justice Ekwo said that EFCC which was completely mindful that Ekweremadu was in custody in the United Kingdom neglected to make the crucial data accessible to court.

The Judge concurred with the insight to Ekweremadu and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adegboyega Awomolo that it was absolutely impossible that the previous Deputy president of the Senate, would be opportune to protect his responsibility for questioned properties.

Justice Ekwo had on November 4 last year gave the Interim Forfeiture Request for the Federal Government following an ex-parte application brought before him by EFCC.

The Judge had explicitly coordinated that anybody who had interest in the relinquished properties ought to show in the span of 14 days of the distribution of the interim forfeiture request from the court.

The previous deputy Senate President and his wife are right now being investigated in the United kingdom over a supposed organ harvest.
